Kerkini lake belongs to the prefecture of Serres and is situated about 100 km from Thessaloniki. Access to the area of limni Kerkini is readily available since many paths throughout the region lead to the beautiful Kerkini lake. You can reach limni Kerkini from Thessaloniki via the National Road of Thessaloniki - Kilkis, or via the national road of Thessaloniki - Serres.
Kerkini lake is artificial and is one of the ten most important water parks of Greece and also Balkans.
The mountain Belles with altitude 2030 meters is the northern limit of the natural border between Greece and its neighbor Bulgaria. Strymon River, which springs from the mountains of Bulgaria gives life to the wetland as it is the main feeder of Kerkini Lake.
