During your stay in Kerkini Lake you can visit various sights in the region of Serres. Some of them are presented below.

Monastery of St. John the Baptist

The monastery was built in 1270 AC and is located only 12 km from Serres, at the depths of an overgrown with cypresses and pine trees, ravine. Despite the destruction, the monastery is now a monument of astonishing beauty and a Museum of Byzantine Art.

Acropolis (Koula)

The imposing hill of Koula, at the foot of which the city of Serres stretches, attracts not only the inhabitants of Serres but also the visitors of the region. At the Kastro and the remaining walls they feel like some of the heroes of the history pop and they browse the pages of history. The most important surviving building of the present castle is the tower that rises on the western edge of the pine-clad hill known as "Pyrgos of Orestes".

Archaeological Museum (Bezesteni)

The Archaeological Museum is lodged since 1970 in Bezesteni (closed covered market) of the 15th century that is located in the current center of the city of Serres. It was built according to the Byzantine model of markets and its name means market of textiles. There are findings from the Middle and Late Neolithic, Early and Late Bronze Age, from the 4th through 6th-7th BC, the Roman period, Hellenistic and Byzantine times.

Church Museum

The newly established church museum includes a important set of icons, silver utensils and gold-embroidered vestments. These sacred relics come from churches and monasteries in the provinces Serres and Nigrita, dating from the 14th to early 20th century and are evidence of the faith and artistic creation in the region of Serres.

Sarakatsanoi Museum

One of the best folk museums in Europe, Sarakatsanoi Museum, is located in Serres. In 1987 it won a special distinction considering all the components of its identity. On the ground floor of the museum shows, semantic, the last phase of the nomadic life of Sarakatsani, that Greek population with the specific customs and unique art.

Natural History Museum

The museum is at 1st km Serres - Baptist Monastery. It is a very useful guide for learning, studying, and protecting the natural environment of the region. It states modules that include animals, birds, plants, insects and rocks. The purpose is to collect and preserve all fauna, flora and mineral wealth.

Serres Circuit

The circuit of Serres is the only track in Greece, but also in the Balkans, which meets the construction standards of the International Automobile Federation and the International Biathlon Federation for conducting racing category Motorcycle and Car up to the level of Formula 3000.

Alistrati Cave

One of the most beautiful caves in Greece, a fantastic beauty and rich decor, is located southeast of the historic village of Alistrati and 6 km far from it. The great cave of Alistrati with its unique natural ventilation to all parts of it, owes its birth to phenomena that started their activities before 2,000,000 years. The visitor of Alistrati cave, during cave's walk follows an exemplary defined path that leads from the majestic entrance of the cave in the main hall.

Aggitis Gorge

Aggitis River Gorge can be considered as a paradise, 15km in length, since this deep and narrow river valley between hard rock, offers to visitors a unique charm and a new experience. The steep walls of the narrow valley, according to a version, are considered as an artificial construct of the Macedonians under Philip II. The river Aggitis valley was constructed to four evolutionary stages, during the Neogene and Quaternary and is known under the names "Stena Petras" and "Dioriga". A key feature of the Aggitis gorge is the deep cracks starting from the village Simvoli reaching the village Lefkothea. The course of the river through the gorge isn't direct consequently in many places the water reaches the rocks, while in the other side there are deposits. The "caves" and the arches created by the passage of time are of astonishing beauty. The flora of the valley includes all kinds of wild species and has also a rich fauna.

Amphipoli

Amphipoli was founded by the Athenians in 437 BC at a privileged and naturally strong position: a short distance from the sea, at a crossroad and a large navigable river, Strimonas and at a rich in precious metals and wood, mountain, Paggaio. Today the visitor of Amfipoli can see coins and inscriptions and rare finds of the whole history of this ancient city.
